BASIL
Welcome
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has launched be@school, an important initiative to support our children.
It is estimated that thousands of children in Hennepin County have far too many unexcused absences from school. This is a major societal problem because we know that school absence is a risk factor for substance abuse, teen pregnancy, criminal behavior, and later chronic unemployment. Concern for the devastating effects of truancy led to the development of a pilot program which showed a significant reduction in unexcused absences.
This approach, now be@school, is being implemented county-wide; with all truancy efforts consolidated under the leadership of the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. I am passionate about getting kids to school so they all have the opportunity to succeed. If our children are educated, we all succeed.
