Husband charged with driving drunk and running over wife
A Minnetonka Beach man was charged with being drunk when he ran over his wife last week, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Monday.
David Christopher Meder, 57, was charged with a single count of criminal vehicular homicide or operation-operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more in the death of 57-year-old Diane Rawlings Meder. Bail of $150,000 was requested and was expected to make his first appearance Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint, Meder told police he and his wife were returning home and he stopped the car to get the mail. Meder said he was unsure when his wife got out of the car, but it might have been while he was looking through the mail. He made the left hand turn into their driveway and he heard her yell that he was running her over. She was still alive when medics arrived and she said it was an accident. She died just before 10 p.m. at North Memorial Medical Center.
Meder smelled of alcohol and a breathalyzer registered a blood-alcohol content of .155, according to the complaint.
