A 28-year-old Minneapolis man pleaded guilty to intentionally firing a handgun multiple times into a sports utility vehicle and one shot traveled across the street from Peavey Park and wounded an innocent mother and child, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.

Dontae Denae Peterson pleaded guilty to three of eight counts on Nov. 25th and will be sentenced on February 19. The County Attorney’s Office is seeking 189 months in prison.

Peterson, a member of the 10z gang (pronounced tens), admitted that he and his friends had been feuding with a man and his associates at Peavey Park on the afternoon of June 18. A short time later, Peterson noticed an SUV traveling north on Park Avenue and the man was inside. Peterson ran through the park and then fired his gun at least eight times. The SUV was hit in the wild shooting spree and so was a mother and her 15-month-old child who was riding in a stroller. The mother was shot in the leg and the child was struck with a bullet in the abdomen. Both suffered serious long-term injuries.

Peterson is being held without bail until sentencing.
