A Minneapolis man was charged in the shooting death of a 26-year-old woman, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

Nicholas Alonzo Jefferson, 31, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of Iesha Wiley, 26, also of Minneapolis. Jefferson is expected to make his first appearance Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were sent to a parking lot near Lyndale and Broadway Avenues N. on May 12 at approximately 3:18 p.m. They found Wiley on the ground with a fatal gunshot wound. A woman said she and Wiley were in a store, near the parking lot, when Wiley’s boyfriend Marvel Galveston Williams came in and started arguing with Wiley, who was holding an infant. Williams demanded that Wiley put the child down and when she refused, William started punching her in the face and took her cell phone. Wiley put down the infant, pursued Williams to the parking lot and maced him in the face.

Other witnesses told police that they saw the dispute in the parking lot and heard Williams say “shoot her.” Jefferson rolled down the passenger window, reached across from the driver’s seat and shot Wiley, the complaint states. Surveillance video corroborated accounts of the witnesses.
