Two men charged in separate weekend homicides

The two North Minneapolis murders that occurred last weekend resulted in murder charges against two men, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.

Marco Anthony Gresham, 24, of Minneapolis was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Francesca Desandre and attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of another woman identified as V.G. on July 5. She remains hospitalized from the gunshot to her abdomen.

According to the criminal complaint, Desandre hosted a Fourth of July party at her home at 2617 Third St. N. in Minneapolis. Among the guests were V.G. and Gresham. Later in the evening, the trio, along with several other friends, drove to several downtown clubs in Gresham’s car.

After arriving back at Desandre’s home just before 5 a.m., Gresham confronted V.G. about her knowledge of Gresham’s alleged involvement in a St. Paul homicide in January. She denied any knowledge, but Gresham pointed a gun at her, pulled her close to him and fired one shot into her abdomen, the criminal complaint states. Desandre ran to her house, shots were fired at her and she collapsed near the front steps.

In the other case, Joseph Lee Smith, 24, of Brooklyn Center was charged in the death of 28-year-old Cabrie Young in a home at 3442 Dupont Ave. N. on July 4.

According to the criminal complaint, two men were in a fist fight outside the home and one of them was knocked unconscious. Young was helping the downed fighter get into the home when Smith, who was with the other fighter, ran up and started shooting at Young.
