Two charged in beating, robbery inside fitness center locker room

An Eden Prairie man and his Shakopee accomplice were charged in the robbery and beating of a man in the locker room of an Eden Prairie Life Time Fitness, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

Dalal Bayle Idd (PDF), 18, and Kamal Elyas Maqadin (PDF), 26, of Shakopee, were charged with first-degree robbery. Idd also was charged with third-degree assault. Bail of $500,000 was requested for Idd and $250,000 for Maqadin. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office added more charges late Tuesday afternoon against Dalal Idd for a burglary and assault (PDF), also in Eden Prairie.

According to the criminal complaint, the two men entered the Life Time Fitness locker room Sunday afternoon and Idd repeatedly punched the victim before taking his wallet and running. A witness was able to get the license number of the car they drove. Eventually, police arrested both men at an apartment.

Police interviewed the men and Idd admitted to punching the man five or six times in the face and then taking the wallet and cell phone and handing the wallet to Maqadin. Maqadin admitted to receiving the wallet, the complaint states.

The men are expected to make a first appearance Wednesday.
