Trial begins Tuesday of DJ stalker
In a real life version of the movie Play Misty for Me, Patrick Henry Kelly will go on trial next week for stalking local disc jockey Mary Lucia.
Kelly, 56, of Eden Prairie, was charged with one count of stalking, a felony, in October. He will go on trial beginning Tuesday morning.
According to the criminal complaint, Lucia began receiving voicemails, emails and letters from someone she did not know at her job at MPR’s 89.3 the Current. He would identify himself as Patrick and in one case included his home address. The notes quickly developed into what she said was an “inappropriate intimacy.”
In June, MPR sent Kelly a letter telling him to stop contacting Lucia and that company policy forbid employees from receiving gifts from the public. He emailed the company that he would abide by the policy. While Kelly stopped contacting Lucia at work, by July he somehow obtained her personal email address and cell phone number and continued contacting her, the complaint states.
On July 21, Lucia obtained a Harassment Restraining Order against Kelly, ordering him to have no contact with her and not to come within two blocks of her. Despite being served the order, Kelly kept leaving letters and gifts by her front and back doors through October when he was arrested, according to the complaint.
In the 1971 movie, Clint Eastwood plays the disc jockey stalked by the obsessed fan played by Jessica Walter.
