Daniele Wright sentenced in deadly New Hope bar assault

Daniele Wright, 27, was sentenced to 74 months in prison for a deadly assault on John Hillstrom, 36, at a New Hope bar, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced today.

Last month, Wright pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree. He admitted that he had been drinking heavily on the night of June 13, 2014 when  he punched Hillstrom of Crystal outside the Outtakes Bar and Grill in New Hope.

Wright wrote an apology to the family during the trial. At his sentencing, Hillstrom’s sister Anne gave her impact statement to the judge saying, “While I do agree with the defendant when he says there is no excuse for what he did. I also believe this incident was 100% avoidable and completely unnecessary. I forgive Mr. Wright for prematurely taking John from me and my family. In addition, I believe it is impossible to provide a sentence that is equal to the life lost.”
