Bloomington man charged in high speed chase

A Bloomington man was charged with a felony for fleeing a peace officer, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

Matthew Hovland-Knase, 22, is expected to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, officers observed a 2014 Honda motorcycle traveling westbound on Valley View Road, in Eden Prairie, in excess of the speed limit at 3:00 a.m. on June 20. Officers activated their squad car’s emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the motorcycle.

Instead of stopping, Hovland-Knase turned against a red stoplight and accelerated his speed. Officer pursued the motorcycle, which wove side to side and crossed the center line, reaching speeds of approximately 100 mph. Eventually, Hoveland-Knase pulled to the side of the road and the officers initiated a felony stop.
