Wednesday, January 13, 2016

An 18-year-old student has been charged with assaulting the principal of Harrison Education Center, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.

Lashawnte Simone Bright, of Minneapolis, is charged in a juvenile petition with one count of third-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault on a school official. Bright, who just turned 18, was a juvenile at the time of the attack.

According to the petition, on December 7, Bright was in the cafeteria when the principal asked her to leave because Bright had been suspended and was not allowed at school. The principal was walking with her toward the door when Bright grabbed the principal by the hair, pulled her to the ground and proceeded to punch the principal in the face several times. Other staff members pulled Bright off the principal and Bright left the scene.

The principal suffered a concussion and head trauma due to the assault, and has been unable to return to work under the advisement of her doctor.
