A Michigan man, who was a guest at an Airbnb in Minnetonka, has been charged with attempting to sexually assault a seven-year-old girl, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday

Derrick Aaron Kinchen, 28, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct of a victim under 13.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a home on Bellevue Drive in Minnetonka at approximately 12:22 a.m. Sunday morning in response to a report of an attempted sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl. The girl’s father said that Kinchen had rented their spare bedroom through the Airbnb web site. The father said he and his wife had put their daughter to sleep in their bedroom earlier in the evening. Around midnight, he heard Kinchen arrive home from a wedding. Approximately 15 minutes later, the father walked into his bedroom, where the lights were on, and saw Kinchen lying on the bed naked next to his daughter. The father yelled at Kinchen and Kinchen grabbed his suit coat and wallet and fled.

The complaint states that the officers conducted a canine search and located Kinchen hiding in a partially covered fishing boat at a neighboring house. Kinchen, who was naked except for his suit coat, was taken into custody.

Kinchen is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
