Man who fatally shot woman in parking lot sentenced to more than 35 years in prison

Wednesday,

Hennepin County District Court Judge Jamie L. Anderson sentenced Nicholas Jefferson to 426 months in prison for murdering 26-year-old Iesha Wiley, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.

A jury convicted Jefferson, 32, of Minneapolis, of second-degree, intentional murder on June 8.

“The sentence handed down by Judge Anderson of more than 35 years in prison is what Mr. Jefferson deserves for the horrific crime he committed,” said Freeman. “He shot and killed Ms. Wiley only because someone told him to. He has expressed no remorse, nor accepted responsibility for his actions. He’ll have plenty of time in prison to reflect on the tremendous pain he has caused.”

In court, Ms. Wiley’s mother, grandmother, sister and aunt gave impact statements. Teddie Wiley, Iesha’ mother, said her daughter was defenseless and did not pose a threat “She did nothing and said nothing to deserve this.”

Jefferson declined to comment during today’s sentencing. He was given credit for 413 days already served and was ordered to pay restitution.
