Resources for voters in Hennepin County
11/4/2024
On the eve of an extremely consequential election, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is committed to ensuring that people can vote freely and without fear of violence and retaliation. If you witness a crime or are a victim of a crime on election day, our office is prepared to help. You can reach us at 612-348-5550.
If you encounter any violence or physical threats at your polling place, call 911 immediately.
In Minnesota, voters can register to vote the same day as the election. Just bring proof of residence with you to your polling place. To see what proof is needed, check out this handout from the Minnesota Secretary of State: https://www.sos.state.mn.us/media/6024/election-day-registration.pdf.
Voters with questions about how to vote can review information on the Secretary of State’s website at https://www.sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting/election-day-voting/ or call the national nonpartisan Election Protection hotline: 866-OUR-VOTE.
Additionally, there are new laws now in effect to ensure access to voting:
- Restoration of voting rights – Anyone with a criminal record can now register to vote as long as they are not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction.
- Increased accessibility – Voting locations are required to have instructions available in Hmong, Spanish and Somali.
- Automatic Voter Registration – If you renew or apply for a new Minnesota Driver's License or State ID, you’ll automatically be registered to vote.
“Our office, along with elected officials across Minnesota, is committed to ensuring that the right to vote is protected,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “There are numerous resources across the state ready to be deployed. If you believe something is wrong, call. And don’t forget to vote.”
