“Nudieland” shooter certified as an adult

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has secured the certification of Dominic James Burris, 18, to be prosecuted as an adult for his role in the “Nudieland” mass shooting on Aug. 11, 2023.

Mr. Burris, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, is charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, and five counts of second-degree assault.

“Our office’s decision to seek adult certification in this case reflects our investigation of each individual case to determine the appropriate accountability that best protects community safety,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Prosecution in adult court is necessary given Mr. Burris’ role in this horrific incident, his prior history of violent conduct, and the lack of sufficient resources in the juvenile justice system to appropriately address these concerns.”

Mr. Burris is currently in custody.
