Richard Wooton sentenced to 150 months following February plea

Richard Patrick Wooton, 55, was sentenced March 28 to 150 months on one count of theft by swindle in two separate cases. He pleaded guilty to the charges in February.
“Mr. Wooton swindled dozens of homeowners by promising work and taking payment for projects that were never completed, in addition to committing theft by swindle against several businesses,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “He is being held accountable for his actions and the damage he caused.”
The total loss from homeowners swindled by Mr. Wooton in 27-CR-22-10602 is nearly $850,000. Additionally, the total loss from businesses targeted by Mr. Wooton in 27-CR-24-1444 is $232,000.
Mr. Wooton has multiple convictions for theft-related offenses and contractor fraud dating back to 1990, including convictions for burglary, theft by swindle, check forgery, and theft by false representation.
At the time of sentencing, Mr. Wooton had 537 days of credit for time already served.
