Big Lake man sentenced to 100 months for role in 2024 shooting
10/28/2025
Kinglewes Edward McCaleb VI, 21, was sentenced Tuesday to 100 months for his role in a 2024 fatal shooting.
He pleaded guilty last month to one count of first-degree manslaughter.
On May 28, 2024, Mr. McCaleb was standing outside when a car with four occupants – two adults and two children - drove past and at least one of its occupants fired a shot at him. He returned fire as the car sped away, killing Joseph Milligan, 26.
“Mr. McCaleb’s actions exceeded the legal bounds of self-defense,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “This resolution accounts for both his behavior and the context in which it occurred. In another instance of needless gun violence, numerous lives have been changed forever.”
Under the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines, first-degree manslaughter is a level 9 severity offense. With a criminal history score of zero, the presumptive sentence for Mr. McCaleb was 86 months. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office argued for a 103-month sentence.
Mr. McCaleb has 343 days of credit for time already served.
