Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention Tips

Recently, there has been an increase in catalytic converter thefts within Hennepin County.

Our office takes this matter seriously and wants the community to be prepared in order to avoid becoming victims of these thefts.

Here are preventative tips,

  1. If possible, park your vehicle in a garage or enclosed, secure parking area. This decreases access to your vehicle and its catalytic converter.
  2. Should you have to leave your vehicle outside, it is recommended to park between two automobiles. This practice makes accessing catalytic converters much more challenging.
  3. In the evenings, park your vehicle in a well-lit space. The same applies for parking in ramps, garages or designated parking areas.

Targeted vehicle makes and models:

  1. 1998 Honda Accords,
  2. 2003 Honda Odysseys,
  3. 2004 Acura TLs,
  4. Honda Element
  5. Chevy Cargo Vans, and
  6. Ford Echo line vehicles.

If your catalytic converter is stolen, call the police in the city where the theft occurred. If it happened in Minneapolis, please click here.
