Brooklyn Park man pleads guilty to stabbing wife at least 30 times

6/19/2018

A Brooklyn Park man pleaded guilty to stabbing his wife at least 30 times, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

Jethro Togar Gboeah, 35, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the first-degree Monday. He will be sentenced on Friday and will receive a guidelines sentence of 180 months in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, on the evening of August 15, 2017, officers were called to an apartment building in Brooklyn Park to investigate a stabbing. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a woman, who was later identified as Gboeah’s wife, lying in the hallway and bleeding severely from numerous stab wounds, including one to her neck. The victim was taken to the hospital.

Officers later learned that the victim had sustained approximately 30 stab wounds. In May of last year, Gboeah had been charged with several counts of domestic assault and was ordered not to have contact with his wife as terms of his release.

Gboeah had gone to the apartment on August 15, approached his wife and began strangling her, according to the complaint. He then obtained a knife and repeatedly stabbed her. This happened in front of their children, who reported that their father said he was going to kill their mother if he could not be with her and that nobody else was going to be with her. An adult male also witnessed Gboeah stabbing his wife and called 911.

Gboeah turned himself into police on August 16, 2017 and has remained in custody.
