Andre Owens pleads guilty in fatal shooting of 16-year-old

2/12/2020

On Feb. 10, Andre Owens, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday. He will be sentenced to 372 months in prison on Feb. 18.

According to the criminal complaint, on July 19, 2019, Minneapolis Police received a call about a possible shooting that occurred in the area of Colfax Ave. N and 30th Ave. N. When police arrived, they found 16-year-old Quayshun Felton lying on the street unresponsive, bleeding from his head. Felton was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.  An autopsy established that he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

A vehicle parked nearby captured the shooting on dash camera. Upon review of the video, investigators identified two suspects on bicycles as the shooters, the complaint continues.

Felton’s friend who was with him at the time of the murder knew and recognized the two shooters, one being Owens. He confirmed Owens’ identity through Facebook and Owens’ booking photo, the complaint states.

Owens was arrested on Aug. 15, 2019 and admitted in a post-Miranda statement to being one of the shooters. In court Monday, Owens reaffirmed that he was part of the fatal shooting.
