Robert Hall charged for fatal shooting in North Minneapolis

11/16/2021

UPDATE: On May 17, Robert Hall was sentenced to 300 months in prison. He received 288 months for count two – unintentional second-degree murder, and, a 12-month sentence for count three – attempted simple robbery. These sentences will be served consecutively.

A Golden Valley man has been charged for the fatal shooting of a male victim in North Minneapolis, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Monday.

Robert David Hall, 36, was charged with intentional second-degree murder for killing a male victim who attempted to chase down Hall after he struck another vehicle with his car and tried to flee the area. Hall was also charged with attempted robbery and felon in possession.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance November 17 at 1:30 p.m.

According to the criminal complaint, on November 12, around 9:49 a.m., Minneapolis police went to West Broadway Avenue and Lyndale Avenue North upon hearing of a car accident that led to a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found the male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest, deceased.

Witnesses informed police that Hall ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. He left his car and attempted to run from the accident, but the male victim and two other witnesses pursued him, and tried to detain him until police arrived, the complaint continues.

After Hall resisted, he shot the male victim in the chest.

He then ran to a Cub Foods where he tried to steal a female victim’s car in the parking lot. Multiple witnesses intervened and prevented Hall from taking the car, the complaint continues. Hall was subdued by those witnesses until police came to the site of the incident. While Hall was being restrained, a firearm fell out of his pocket. A bulletproof vest was also taken off Hall by witnesses.

Video surveillance of the area captured the incident, and corroborated with what witnesses recounted.

When officers checked Hall’s vehicle, another gun was found.

Upon being taken into custody by police, Hall admitted to the car accident, and attempting to run from the scene due to a warrant, and the guns, drugs and bulletproof vest he had on him. He further stated that the gun in his pocket “went off” and shot the male victim, the complaint says. Hall also told officers that he owned the two guns they found.

Hall’s previous felony convictions prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
