Devon Manley pleads guilty to first-degree murder in a drive-by, premeditated attempted first-degree murder

On January 14, Devon Manley pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in a drive-by and premeditated attempted first-degree murder for fatally shooting a woman and threatening the life of another person in a car, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday. Manley was indicted by a Hennepin County Grand Jury of these two counts on July 22, 2021.

As part of the plea agreement, Manley, 29, of Brooklyn Park, will be sentenced for the first-degree murder charge to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years of time served. In addition, he will also receive 213 months for the premeditated attempted first-degree murder charge, which will run concurrently.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 24 at 8:45 a.m.

Manley was first charged just over a year ago for the shooting, which occurred near 26th Avenue North and Emerson Avenue North in Minneapolis. In his plea, Manley admitted to pulling up alongside the vehicle of his intended target, a man with the initials D.S. Manley stated he was trying to kill him, but acknowledged that he missed and hit the victim, Shanette Marable, who was celebrating her 31st birthday that day. Her two-year-old child was in the car when she was killed.
