Devon Manley sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 30 years

1/24/2022

On Jan. 24, Devon Manley, 29, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years for intentional first-degree murder during a drive-by shooting, and to a concurrent 213-month sentence for premeditated attempted first-degree murder, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Monday. The sentence was in accordance with a plea agreement from Jan. 14.

At the sentencing, victim witness advocate from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office read statements on behalf of members of Shanette Marable’s family, the female victim who Manley fatally shot. Marable’s father also spoke about the pain this case has caused him and his family.

Additionally, the intended target of the shooting was present and also gave a victim impact statement.

Manley was first charged Jan. 12, 2021, for the shooting, which occurred in North Minneapolis. In his plea, Manley admitted to pulling up alongside the vehicle of his intended target, and stated he was trying to kill him, but acknowledged that he missed and shot Marable instead.

Marable was celebrating her 31st birthday that day, and her two-year-old child was in the car when she was killed.
