Earl Bennett charged in Oct. 27 triple homicide

11/4/2024

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office today charged Earl Bennett, 40, with 3 counts of second-degree intentional murder in an Oct. 27 shooting at a homeless encampment in Minneapolis.

The three victims in the encampment shooting were Christopher Martell Washington, Louis Lemons Jr., and Samantha Jo Moss.

Mr. Bennett was also charged last week with one count of premeditated attempted first-degree murder for a shooting in Minneapolis that occurred on Oct. 28, 2024.

“These were horrifying acts of violence,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Mr. Bennett targeted vulnerable people and took the lives of three members of our community. My thoughts are with their loved ones. Our office will prosecute Mr. Bennett to bring appropriate accountability for his actions and to protect our community.”

Mr. Bennett is currently in custody at Regions Hospital.
