A man has been charged with killing his brother, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.
Garrett Bruce Ittel, 25, has been charged with two counts of second-degree intentional murder in the death of his 27-year-old brother Jamison.
According to the criminal complaint, on Tuesday, police were dispatched to 5300 Annapolis Lane in Plymouth after receiving a report that a man had stabbed his brother. Police found Ittel outside on the steps of the apartment complex, standing over the body of Jamison who was covered with a blanket, barefoot and shirtless. Jamison was dead from a stabbing in the heart.
Investigators spoke with Ittel’s mother who had called 911 after receiving a call from the victim saying his brother had stabbed him. Ittel also admitted on that call with his mother that he had stabbed Jamison. Earlier in the evening, the mother had received separate calls from both men and they said they were having a fight. She suggested they go to their separate rooms for the night, the complaint states.
Investigators inspected the two bedroom apartment and found blood in the kitchen, Ittel’s bedroom and a bathroom where it appeared someone had tried to clean up. Investigators also found the knife Ittel used to stab his brother, according to the complaint.
Ittel told police he and his brother had been drinking when they began to argue about rent money Ittel owed his brother. Ittel said he went to his dresser drawer and got out a knife. He admitted after he stabbed him once in the kitchen, he stabbed him again, saying “I know I chased him down,” the complaint states. After being stabbed a second time, his brother grabbed a blanket off the couch and left the apartment to go to the front steps of the apartment building where responding officers found him a short time later.
Ittel is in custody and is expected to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon.
