Help prevent elder abuse

6/15/2018

One in 10 older Americans are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation. And for every case that is reported, many more go undetected. That's why our office works to raise awareness of this issue around World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which was June 15.

We prosecute cases involving the abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of individuals who prey on seniors and vulnerable adults. We also assist Adult Protective Services from Hennepin County in their work to provide protective planning for seniors and families who are dealing with abuse, neglect, or self-neglect by seniors or vulnerable adults.

If you are concerned that a family member, friend or neighbor is being abused or exploited, or can no longer take care of themselves, you can call the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center at 844-880-1574. Or, you can fill out a simple online form via their web site and your report will automatically be sent to the appropriate agencies who can provide the necessary follow up care and support.

For a free brochure about financial exploitation and elder abuse, email citizeninfo@hennepin.us.

Members of our Complex Crimes Team also provide presentations to senior groups and organizations on telephone scams and frauds. Call Diane Krenz at 612-384-6919 for more information about scheduling one.
