Crystal man charged in shooting at skate park

6/5/2018

A Crystal man was charged with two counts of first-degree assault in a shooting at a skate park in Crystal that left the victim severely injured, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

Ivan Hernandez-Enriquez, 19, is expected to make his first court appearance on the charges Wednesday. Prosecutors are seeking bail of $500,000.

According to the complaint, Crystal police were sent to the Crystal skate park near 4800 Douglas Drive N., about 4:30 p.m. Friday and found an 18-year-old man bleeding profusely. Witnesses identified Hernandez-Enriquez as the shooter and described the car in which he fled.

Hernandez-Enriquez and the victim had been feuding for weeks and were once again arguing. The witnesses thought it would turn into a fistfight. Instead, Hernandez-Enriquez pulled out a handgun and fired one shot, hitting the victim in his thigh, the complaint states.

The victim suffered from massive bleeding and was in critical condition. He was unable to speak to police until Monday. He confirmed the witness accounts that he thought it would be a fistfight, but instead, Hernandez-Enriquez shot him, according to the complaint. Police arrested Hernandez-Enriquez at a Crystal apartment later in the day.
