A Minneapolis man was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man in a Cub Foods parking lot, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.
Damon Moore, 56, was charged in the death of 54-year-old Jeffery J. Miller. He is expected to make his first court appearance Friday and prosecutors are seeking $1.5 million in bail due to Moore’s criminal history.
According to the criminal complaint, on Tuesday, Moore was inside the Cub Foods at 2850 S. 26th Ave. late in the evening. According to witnesses, Moore was using foul language and giving the finger to customers. Moore went over to Miller and made derogatory remarks. Miller told Moore to go outside.
Surveillance video showed Miller walking through the vestibule of the store and he was followed by Moore and they began fighting. After several seconds, Moored backed up into the store, the complaint states. Miller threw a yellow cone at Moore before turning around, picking up his grocery bag and walking out to the parking lot.
A witness then saw Moore dig into his pants pocket and the surveillance video showed him taking a knife out, unfolding the blade and following Miller into the parking lot. Moore took a swinging motion with his right hand and Miller backed away and swung his grocery bag at Moore. Moore swung again and stuck the knife into the left side of Miller’s skull, according to the complaint. Miller died a short time later at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
