St. Paul man guilty in Robbinsdale murder, faces 26 years

Zittie Taylor pleaded guilty in the murder of a man at a Robbinsdale home, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.

Taylor, 33, of St. Paul, pleaded guilty on Monday to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Jody Tyrone Fry, 29, of Chicago. Taylor will be sentenced on Sept. 27 and is expected to receive 26 years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, on June 19, 2017, officers responded to a call of shots fired and when they arrived at the home at 42nd and Welcome Avenues North, they saw a white car with several windows shattered and glass everywhere. In the driver’s seat, they found Fry, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses on the scene were vague about what happened and would not identify who shot Fry. Finally, police interviewed a witness who said she heard Taylor talking to Fry and then saw Taylor walk to his car and get a gun. Taylor walked over to the driver side of Fry’s car and shot multiple times before fleeing in his car, the complaint states.

In court, Taylor was asked “why did you kill Mr. Fry?” He responded, “I don’t know.”
