Music dispute leads to fatal stabbing, murder charge

A dispute over music ended in a fatal stabbing and a murder charge against Quinten Osgood, Jr., Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Monday.

Osgood, 29, is listed as homeless. He will make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon on the second-degree murder charge and prosecutors are seeking bail of $1 million.

According to the criminal complaint, Minneapolis police found 33-year-old Anthony Madison bleeding at 35th Street East and First Avenue South about 10:45 p.m. Jan. 3. Paramedics arrived and took Madison to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died shortly after 11 p.m.

A witness, who lives with Madison, said they invited Osgood and his girlfriend to their home. Both Madison’s friend and Osgood’s friend agreed the evening was pleasant until the two men started arguing over music. The argument escalated and eventually Madison ordered Osgood to leave, the complaint states.

That made Osgood angry and once outside, he kicked the gate to the fence hard enough to cause damage. Madison confronted Osgood about the damage and they soon were fighting and fell to the ground, according to the complaint. Eventually, they both stood up. Osgood ran away and Madison took a few steps and collapsed.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office found two stab wounds to Madison’s left chest and one to his butt. Osgood told police when they both fell to the ground, Osgood saw the knife on the ground, picked it up and stabbed Madison. The knife has not been recovered, the complaint states.
