Jury convicts Cosey in fatal shooting

6/19/2019

A Hennepin County District Court Jury convicted Antwan Cosey of second-degree murder, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

The jury deliberated less than three hours Monday afternoon before finding Cosey, 38, of Minneapolis guilty of intentional second-degree murder in the shooting death of 42-year-old Frankie Golden. Sentencing was set for July 12 and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office will be asking for a 40-year prison term, which is within the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines because of Cosey’s criminal history.

According to the testimony in the week-long trial and the criminal complaint, shortly after 6 p.m on Feb. 27, 2018, witnesses saw Golden standing on the sidewalk outside 727 E. 18th St. waiting to visit with his nine-month-old son who lived there.

Cosey approached and told Golden to move. They argued and Cosey pulled a gun from his waistband and shot once, striking Golden in the chest, killing him.

Four days later, Cosey bought a bus ticket to Texas and a week later was captured in Florida.
