Shermeika Franklin Pleaded Guilty to Second-degree Murder
11/6/2019
A Minneapolis woman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for stabbing a woman, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.
Shermeika Franklin, 39, pleaded guilty Monday — the day her trial was set to begin — to the stabbing death of 42-year-old Mesheka Willis on May 25, 2019. Franklin will be sentenced Dec. 2 and is expected to get 153-months in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a parking lot near 810 Hennepin Ave. S. on the night of May 25 where they found Willis lying on the asphalt with two people giving her first aid. She died at Hennepin Health just before 10:30 p.m.
Police watched surveillance video and saw Franklin arguing with Willis, the two women circling each other and then Willis staggering away and falling to the ground, the complaint states.
