Andre Owens, 21, has been sentenced to 372 months in prison for his involvement in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Quayshun Felton, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
On Feb. 10, Owens pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and admitted to being one of the shooters. At Tuesday’s sentencing, Owens addressed the court, saying, “I don’t think what I’ve done is OK … I take full responsibility for my actions.”
According to the criminal complaint, on July 19, 2019, Minneapolis Police responded to a possible shooting in the area of Colfax Ave. N and 30th Ave. N. and found 16-year-old Felton lying unresponsive on the street. Felton was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the head.
Upon review of dash camera footage captured by a nearby vehicle during the shooting, investigators identified two suspects on bicycles as the shooters, the complaint states.
The 23-year-old codefendant, Shannon Blackman, does not have a trial date set at this time. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance March 30.
