Dayton man charged with shooting at three police officers

1/9/2020

A Dayton man was charged with three counts of first-degree assault for shooting at three police officers, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.

Faris Hussien, 26, was charged specifically with use of deadly force against a peace officer. He is expected to make his first court appearance Friday.

According to the criminal complaint, three police officers went to Hussien’s home in Dayton on official business. Two of the officers were at the front door and the third officer was off to the side. One of the officers knocked on the door and announced that he was a police officer.

Hussien did not come out, but instead, locked the door’s dead bolt lock. The officers decided to kick in the door, the complaint states. When they did that, Hussien fired multiple times at the officers through the open doorway. One of the officers quickly returned fire.

No one was injured despite one officer having five bullet holes in his clothing, four in his jacket and one in his pant leg. He was not wearing a bullet proof vest, according to the complaint.
