Two men charged in Bloomington home invasion

Bloomington Police interrupted a home invasion and two men have been charged with various felonies as a result, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Robert Gabrio, 45, of Aitkin was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and threats of violence. Danny Denzer, 56, of Mounds View, was charged with a single count of first-degree burglary. They are expected to make their first court appearance Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, sometime after 7 p.m. Sunday, a woman who lives in the 2800 block of 101st Street West in Bloomington was talking on the phone with her sister when she saw a car back into her driveway and Gabrio and Denzer forced their way into the house.

By 7:25 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the house and they arrested Denzer who was walking around the main floor. About that time, they heard a woman scream from the basement and heard a man saying, “give me the money,” the complaint states.

Police went to a back bedroom in the basement and saw Gabrio holding a knife very close to the woman. He rushed towards the police but stopped short and turned back to the woman. Police subdued Gabrio and arrested him, according to the complaint.

The woman told police that when he entered the house, Gabrio grabbed her by the throat, threw her over a couch, then put her in a headlock and dragged her into the basement. He put a knife to her throat and told her to open the safe in the bedroom or he would cut her throat and kill her husband, the complaint states. The woman suffered a cut on the ear and several bumps on the head.
