Man bailed out twice, charged with three new felonies

A Minneapolis man who has been charged with crimes three separate times and twice been bailed out of jail has been charged with three new felonies and is under investigation for a possible separate gun crime, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Thomas Moseley, 29, was most recently charged with three counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm. The three drugs were marijuana, cocaine and psilocyn mushrooms. He is expected to make his first court appearance January 28 and this time prosecutors will be seeking bail of $250,000.
According to the criminal complaint, on October 15, Moseley was at a protest on the skyway level of the Hennepin County Government Center where he was part of a group protesting a court appearance by the four police officers charged in the death of George Floyd. Police knew there was a pickup order for Moseley for possible charges in the August 15 damage to the Fifth Precinct building. He has since been charged with felony criminal damage to property in that case.
During his arrest, police found Moseley had a Glock semi-automatic handgun in his waistband and he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon in a courthouse, the complaint states. Police found Moseley’s pickup truck at Seventh Street and Second Avenue. There was an odor of marijuana and a black handgun case on the floor behind the front passenger seat. The truck was towed and police obtained a search warrant.
The search yielded three handguns, a shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle as well as a panel for stopping bullets in a bullet-proof vest, a gas mask and about 50 bullets, according to the complaint. Police also found the marijuana, cocaine and mushrooms, which were confirmed by Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab tests earlier this month.
In the property damage and the gun possession charges, Moseley secured an unconditional release after the Minnesota Freedom Fund posted $5,000. Moseley and others were then charged with second-degree riot for a New Year’s Eve melee in downtown Minneapolis. That time, bail was set at $60,000 and the Minnesota Freedom Fund paid that, the complaint states.
In an incident after his most recent release, Moseley is under investigation for possibly attempting to purchase semi-automatic weapons from gun stores on January 7 and 12, using straw buyers, according to the complaint. It would be illegal for him to buy semi-automatic weapons while he is charged with a felony.
In seeking a warrant for Moseley’s arrest, prosecutors wrote in the complaint that his “persistent efforts to acquire firearms and continued engagement in criminal conduct especially dangerous to others raises significant concerns for public safety.”
