Man charged for fatal shooting near Pennwood Market in North Minneapolis

9/14/2021

A Minneapolis man has been charged for a fatal shooting near Pennwood Market in North Minneapolis, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

Tyreese Giles, 21, was charged with intentional second-degree murder for shooting a male victim on September 9 at 2125 Glenwood Avenue — an area that is colloquially referred to as Pennwood Market.

The first appearance for Giles is scheduled for September 15 at 1:30 p.m.

According to the criminal complaint, around 8 p.m. on September 9, Minneapolis police responded to 2125 Glenwood Ave. upon receiving a report of a shooting. They also learned that two victims — one being Giles — were driven to Hennepin County Medical Center. The male victim who Giles shot succumbed to his gunshot injuries the following morning.

The shooting was captured on surveillance video, and officers found multiple discharged cartridge casings on scene. In watching the video, Giles can be seen shooting at the male victim, who then holds his chest, attempts to run into a nearby store, and then to a car before collapsing. The video also shows Giles continuing to shoot at the male victim who had collapsed, the complaint continues.

Approximately nine minutes after the shooting, Giles arrived at the hospital in the same clothing he had on in the surveillance videos.
