Minneapolis man charged with murder

4/8/2022

A Minneapolis man has been charged in the beating death of a male victim, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

Emmanuel Davis, 19, was charged with unintentional second-degree murder for violently assaulting a male victim, which resulted in his death.

Davis is scheduled to make his first appearance April 8 at 1:30 p.m.

According to the complaint, on March 6, a relative of the victim reported receiving a gruesome video of the attack. The assault was recorded with a cell phone, and posted to the victim’s social media account.

Officers were able to locate the victim after contacting area hospitals, where they learned he suffered severe head trauma. The victim later died as a result of injuries sustained during the attack, the complaint says.

Upon further investigation, police learned that the victim was found unresponsive in an apartment building in Minneapolis. They pulled surveillance video from the apartment from March 6, and saw the victim going inside with a female, the complaint continues. Less than an hour later, police and an ambulance arrived and took the victim out on a stretcher.

The relative who initially reported the video told investigators that it was posted with a specific tag, which allowed investigators to trace it back to Davis.

Numerous people who knew Davis were also able to identify him in the video kicking the victim.

During an interview with investigators, Davis admitted to hiring his girlfriend to lure the victim to the apartment. He further stated that he planned to hurt the victim, the complaint continues. Davis also informed investigators that he sent videos and messages to people from the victim’s phone following the attack.

Davis is currently on probation for two aggravated robberies and is in custody due to probation violations for those offenses.
