Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, partner to review tragic death of Amir Locke

Friday,

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced today that he has asked Attorney General Keith Ellison and the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office to partner with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in its review of the tragic death of Amir Locke. Attorney General Ellison said yes. This follows the previous constructive partnerships in the successful prosecutions of Derek Chauvin and Kimberly Potter in recent police shooting cases.

It's also a decision Mayor Frey is in agreement with.

Freeman has asked retired Judge Daniel Mabley, presently the Chief Criminal Deputy in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, to head up his office’s efforts. We will be working with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to ensure a thorough and complete evaluation. Thereafter we will decide together, based on the law and evidence, whether criminal charges should be brought.

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Locke’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Because of the nature of the investigation no further press comments will be forthcoming.
