Brent Buchan sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release

On March 24, Brent Buchan was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release for fatally shooting 25-year-old Joshua-Lee Boyce of Minneapolis on October 25, 2020, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.
Buchan, 25, of Minneapolis, was indicted by a Hennepin County Grand Jury on July 7, 2020, for intentional premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder. On March 8, 2022, a jury convicted Buchan on both counts, with the first-degree murder count carrying a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of release under Minnesota law.
At sentencing on the morning of March 24, victim impact statements were read by the victim’s sister and mother.
