Hennepin County Attorney’s Office updates mission and vision statements, identifies strategic goals

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty today announced the office has released a new strategic framework to guide the office’s direction. The framework includes updated mission and vision statements, and identifies strategic goals that will help the public better understand the office’s work and efforts to achieve a safe, equitable, and just Hennepin County.

“The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is staffed by hundreds of professionals who have dedicated their lives to public service and to making Hennepin County a safer, more equitable, and just place to live,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “It is important that organizations speak and live their values and that’s what this document is about. In the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office we do our best to make the right decision in any situation given the facts, evidence, and law. We center victims and care deeply about their healing. We look to solve problems through collaboration and engagement with the public. This strategic framework lays out what we are doing and we fully expect to be held accountable to it.”

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is a fierce advocate for justice and equity, pursuing holistic community safety and providing quality legal services through evidence-informed practices and collaborative problem solving.

We prosecute crimes with fairness and integrity. We advocate for victims of crime by seeking meaningful accountability and supporting healing. We use preventive and restorative approaches to address the complex root causes of crime and violence. We engage with partners to pursue system accountability. And we provide proactive and innovative legal services in the areas of mental health, child support, child protection, and civil legal representation for Hennepin County to advance the County’s efforts to reduce disparities and enhance the quality of life of our community.

The strategic framework was developed over several months as part of the office’s efforts to improve how it evaluates its work and impact. It is part of an ongoing process of strategic planning and continual improvement that will inform policy and practice, promote accountability, and promote an understanding of what the office does for partners and the community. The office encourages the public to review the framework and provide reactions on any aspect of it.
