Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secures first-degree murder conviction, defendant sentenced to life without parole

4/12/2024

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced today that Immir Fyontane Rice, 25, was sentenced yesterday to life in prison without the possibility of release after being convicted of first-degree premeditated murder following a jury trial that concluded in March. Rice was convicted of all seven counts related to the shooting deaths of two victims and injuries sustained by a third victim. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released the following statement:

“We are dedicated to aggressively prosecuting gun violence and doing the right thing to make our communities safer in each case,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “In this case, that meant prosecuting this case for what it was, a senseless, premeditated murder. Everyone who was impacted by this tragedy is in my thoughts today. I hope this outcome helps everyone in our community feel more safe.”
