Hennepin County Attorney’s Office unveils new Domestic Abuse Service Center space, location
12/10/2024
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office officially opened its relocated Domestic Abuse Service Center (DASC) Tuesday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and open house in its new space on A-14 in the Hennepin County Government Center.
Originally created in 1994, DASC is celebrating its 30th anniversary of service to the residents of Hennepin County. Its mission 30 years later remains the same as when it first opened: “to respond to the needs of victims of domestic violence through a trauma-informed lens delivered by a diverse and inclusive staff that reflect the community we serve.”
DASC’s services include filing orders for protection, providing legal consultation and representation from pro-bono attorneys, culturally specific advocacy, and more.
The scale of DASC’s work is immense: in 2023, DASC had more than 20,000 contacts with individuals seeking services. Relocating to a purpose-built space improves the ability of DASC staff to serve Hennepin County residents.
“The staff in our Domestic Abuse Service Center have an incredible impact on the people they serve,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “The new location is designed to make a difficult experience less stressful for individuals seeking services and their children. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this possible and I know DASC will continue its excellent work under Siri’s leadership.”
“We are committed to eliminating barriers and ensuring victims are not alone during a difficult and stressful time,” DASC Director Siri Lokensgard said. “Our job is to build trust and rapport with the ultimate goal of harm reduction and stopping the violence. This new space will contribute to better results for the residents with whom we work.”
