New Brighton man sentenced after October trial conviction

Dhaha Hayi Hassan, 25, was sentenced to 162 months after the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secured guilty verdicts on second-degree unintentional murder in the death of Randy Burris and possession of a firearm with no serial number.

The trial ran from Oct. 7 to Oct. 10 and the verdict was delivered on Oct. 11, 2024.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Burris’s family today,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “No sentence returns a loved one and nothing fills the hole they leave behind. However, this sentence protects the community and delivers accountability to Mr. Hassan.”

Mr. Hassan has 384 days of credit for time served.
