Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty today announced that the second Hennepin County Attorney’s Office Expungement Clinic and Community Fair will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sabathani Community Center in Minneapolis.
Due to higher-than-expected turnout at the first Expungement Clinic and Community Fair, a new option is now available to allow community members to select an appointment slot at the clinic. Appointments are strongly encouraged to reduce wait time, but they are not necessary. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Appointments can be scheduled here:

Hosted by the Sabathani Community Center in collaboration with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, Second Chance Coalition, Minnesota Justice Research Center, Minneapolis NAACP, and The New Justice Project, this event assists people seeking to ease their reintegration into society after fulfilling their sentences.
"Expungement of criminal records is a step toward a more just and equitable criminal legal system,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “After people complete their sentences, it is in everyone’s interests to ensure the pathway to rebuilding their lives in a meaningful way is without unnecessary obstacles. Otherwise, public safety suffers."
“For our organization, the commitment to continue to help justice impact community members is so important,” The New Justice Project MN Director of Strategic Partnerships Jasmine Laducer-Kitto said. “We know that criminal backgrounds can exclude individuals from housing, government programs, and some careers even after they have served their time for petty offenses. We want to continue to be part of helping reduce recidivism, housing, and food insecurities in any way we can.”
“Criminal records can have significant collateral consequences, for decades after a conviction,” Minnesota Justice Research Center Community Impact Director Kayla Richards said. “A record affects virtually every aspect of a person’s life including employment and licensing, housing, education, public benefits, voting rights and even volunteer opportunities. These consequences can then translate and contribute to cycles of poverty, homelessness and instability, and social exclusion, with the impact landing on not just individuals, but whole communities.”

The Expungement Clinic portion of the event will be guided by staff from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. It is meant to expedite the pathway toward expungement for individuals with adult felony convictions originating from Hennepin County.
