Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secures guilty plea in 2024 fatal shooting

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secured a guilty plea from Marvin Jewell Dancy, 46, in a Minneapolis shooting that killed Wence Edwards in February.

Mr. Dancy pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder with a 166-month sentence and to one count of prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Edwards’ family as we conclude the prosecution of Mr. Dancy,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Although nothing will bring Mr. Edwards back to his loved ones, this resolution holds Mr. Dancy accountable for his actions and protects our community.”

Mr. Dancy is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
