Brooklyn Center man sentenced for first-degree assault of four-month-old

1/15/2025

Maengun James Lee Randberg, 26, was sentenced Wednesday to 108 months on one count of first-degree assault - great bodily harm.

Mr. Randberg pleaded guilty on Nov. 7, 2024, and admitted to the following aggravating factors:

  1. The victim was particularly vulnerable because of their age.
  2. The victim was treated with particular cruelty due to their injuries being known yet ignored for hours by Mr. Randberg.
  3. Mr. Randberg was in a position of authority over the victim as he is the child’s biological father.

“The infant victim suffered extremely serious injuries as a result of Mr. Randberg’s actions and this resolution brings appropriate accountability,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Our thoughts are with the child and their family, and we wish them well in the years ahead.”
