Abdul Wright sentenced to 172 months after criminal sexual conduct conviction
10/17/2025
Abdul Jameel Wright, 39, was sentenced Friday to 172 months in prison. He was found guilty at trial of one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in September.
“Mr. Wright abused his authority and engaged in grossly inappropriate behavior,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “My thoughts are with the victim in this case, who exhibited incredible courage in providing her testimony to help secure a conviction.”
Under the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines, Mr. Wright’s presumptive sentence was 144 months. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office argued for 172 months due to the fact he abused his authority as a teacher, and the victim was a student.
He will also be required to register as a predatory offender and will be on conditional release for 10 years.
Mr. Wright has 38 days of credit for time already served.
