Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charges man following threats of violence as retaliation for death of Charlie Kirk

9/19/2025

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged John Allan Sandeen, 64, with four counts of terroristic threats made to individuals via email.

Mr. Sandeen referred to Charlie Kirk as his “friend” multiple times and promised to commit numerous acts of violence against the targeted individuals as retribution. He also made sweeping threats against “liberal and left-leaning people” as well as people of specific ethnicities and nationalities.

“These threats are chilling and extremely graphic,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Our community is still reeling from the recent assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman, and attempted assassinations of Sen. John Hoffman, Yvette Hoffman, and Rep. Kristin Bahner. We will not tolerate threats of politically motivated violence and will do everything in our power to hold those who make these threats accountable.”

Mr. Sandeen is currently in Ramsey County custody. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on these charges.
