Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secures conviction of Abdul Wright
9/10/2025
A Hennepin County judge returned a guilty verdict Wednesday, marking the conviction of Abdul Jameel Wright, 39, on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
“My thoughts are with the victim of Mr. Wright’s harmful and grossly inappropriate conduct. Her testimony was an act of courage,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Mr. Wright abused his authority, and the trust placed in him as a teacher. The sentence that follows will protect our community and hold him accountable for his actions.”
Under the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines, Mr. Wright’s presumptive sentence is 144 months. The court may use its discretion to increase the sentence to 172 months. He will also be required to register as a predatory offender and will be on conditional release for 10 years.
Mr. Wright’s sentencing is scheduled for October 8 at 9 a.m.
