Evidence Submission Portal: HCAO video on legal efforts currently underway regarding recent use-of-force by federal agents

1/24/2026

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released a video Saturday, providing an update on how the HCAO is working to facilitate a state-level use-of-force investigation into the shooting death of Alex Pretti.

The HCAO began collaborating on an investigation into this incident with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) immediately following reports of the shooting this morning.

“The collection and preservation of evidence is, again, absolutely critical. I want you to know that I will not rest, my team will not rest, until we have done everything in our power, everything within our authority, to achieve transparency and accountability,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said.

Saturday afternoon, the HCAO worked with the BCA to obtain a search warrant for the BCA to access the scene and process evidence. Even with this search warrant signed by a judge the BCA was denied access to the scene by federal agents. The HCAO, in collaboration with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, is using every tool available to investigate what happened today. This includes litigating preservation of and access to evidence in federal court.

The HCAO has opened a portal where people can submit anything they think might be evidence.

This portal can be accessed here.
